“Living from my art is my greatest success”
In one of my previous posts I talked about delightful illustrations created by fashion illustrator Sandra Suy.

Because I simply found her artwork brilliant, I couldn’t resist not to talk with her about the illustration that she creates. So, in the following rows, you’ll see, besides her wonderful fashion illustrations, an interview with Sandra on how to live happy by doing what you love: Drawing fashion illustration.
My dear friends, be inspired and enjoy the story of Sandra Suy:
“I was born in Barcelona, where I live. I studied fashion design and art. I’m married and I have a one year old child.”

How did you get into fashion illustration industry?
I studied fashion design, but my real passion has always been drawing, so when I knew I could combine those two things and become a professional, I had it clear.
How do you describe your style of drawing?
My style of drawing is influenced by classic fashion illustration and I like to think it’s elegant and reflects a timeless beauty.
What technique and materials do you use?
I combine computer and traditional media
What exactly do you do on a daily basis? Are you working in fashion illustration industry or this is only a passion for you?
Fortunately I can devote myself to illustration as a professional. Now I try to balance my work with caring for my one year baby, and it is not easy!
What do you enjoy the most about your career?
I enjoy drawing, staying up-to-date about fashion … is a privilege to devote yourself to something you would do in your spare time.
What are the greatest stresses in fashion illustration job? What causes you the most anxiety?
The deadlines too usually are very short. Also it is habitual not to have work for weeks and suddenly to join with several projects at the same time.
What inspires you?
It depends… There are days I can’t find the inspiration anyway and other days I have no time to express all that I have in my mind. I use to search on the net, I love to do that, for me it’s a wonderful source of inspiration and never ending info report. I like visiting fashion and decoration blogs, there are so many and so interesting! I also consult fashion magazines. Walking down the street is also a great source of inspiration for me.
How do you market/promote your work?
Internet, Myspace , Dripbook… I also work with management agencies in London and Milan

Did you worked for some high-end brands? How was that experience?
Some of my clients are Glamour, Sasson, Skunkfunk, The Economist, or Siwy Denim…
What has been your greatest success?
Living from my art, just that.
Is illustration the only type of art that you do?
Some time ago I started painting, but I gave out because of time. For sure, I’ll do it again someday.
Have you ever created the clothes that you’re drawing?
I studied fashion design but I hate sewing!
Is there a dream project you wish to pursue one day?
I guess that working for a major luxury fashion brand, but I’m not really sure. I believe that every job is interesting if you throw oneself into the work.

How has your education benefited your career?
I am completely self taught as far as it concerns the illustration, but my training in art and fashion design have helped me a lot, of course.
Does graduating from a prestigious school make a difference in landing a good job in this field?
Honestly, I think that what make the difference is isusing your talent and differentiate yourself from the rest with your own style.
Surely a prestigious school has many good things to offer, I have no doubt, but I can’t speak from the inexperience.
Is there anything else you can tell us about yourself, your career, or the profession that would be interesting or helpful to others aspiring to enter and succeed in the field?
Don’t stop trying, looking for your own style, working hard, and showing your art. Fortunately illustration has re-emerged and there is an increasing demand.
