How to be a better Fashion Entrepreneur
If you’re an employee, you can’t build a better boss. But when you’re the boss, you can improve your skills and your performance.
I truly believe that it’s not enough to be talented, the management must be improved too in order to be a better fashion entrepreneur. For fashion designers | illustrators the creative process may be very disorganized but when you’re an independent one, the production and promotion process have to be very rational.
Here are 4 tips I’ve realized that were necessary for me to building a better me.
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Have you ever started a day with great ambitions and then realized at the end that you have many started projects but you didn’t get anything done? It happens to almost everyone, but it happens to creative people more often than others.
Time management requires discipline. For some people is easy and natural. Other people have difficulty creating lists and following through on them. It’s a left-brain/right-brain thing and has to do with whether your brain favors logic and structure or creative and unstructured thinking.
Expand the Network
Being communicative it’s one of my strength. For me it’s easy and natural to make new connections. Other people have difficulty in this.
I believe that being on social networks make our communication easier, but for me, talking face to face with new people is still the most important form of communication and of making true relationships. Personally I feel that this kind of communication, is important to create stable and authentic relationships and also it inspires me to do new projects together with some wonderful people. I’ve realized that making new friends periodically, not only will energize and inspires me with their experience, but also it opens both of us new doors.
Set up Goals | Daily Prioritize
Following lists and plans has been very hard for me at the beginning because I’m a creative person, I do things in my own order. But I’ve realized that without this management I was doing things into disorder without achieving any goals on a specific deadline.
For instance, this is how I work now: I’ve realized that if each Sunday I write down, all the things I want to do the next week, my mind is fresh and free of any worries. Then I prioritize, I create a to-do list at the beginning of each day or at the end of the prior day. When I complete an item or I achieve a goal I check it off.
If you’re like me, you derive satisfaction from being able to check off when an item as complete. Now I work smarter instead of harder or stressed and surprisingly I have more free time to spend it in a creative way, painting or creating new bags.
Have Initiative | Ambition
Someone said that “Ambition without initiative is simply wishful thinking.” In my experience the essential element for success is initiative. I’ve realized that ambition without initiative in the fashion industry can result in spending too much time trying to figure out how the industry can come to you.
